Pilgrim’s UK appoints Citypress

21st January 2021

Pilgrim’s UK, one of Britain’s biggest food producers, has appointed Citypress as its retained communications consultancy.

The company, which used to be known as Tulip, is the largest producer of higher welfare pork globally and is responsible for more than a quarter of all pork products consumed in the UK.

It employs 5,500 people across 14 sites and supplies most of the major supermarkets with products as diverse as bacon, scotch eggs, fresh pork, cocktails and other snacking products, lamb and meat-free products. It supports over 1,200 British farmers operating to Red Tractor and RSPCA standards of animal welfare and produces around 40% of all UK higher welfare pigs.

Now part of the US-based Pilgrim’s Pride Corporation, the newly-rebranded company has tasked Citypress with building its corporate reputation in the UK by demonstrating its investment in sustainability, animal welfare, innovation and people, alongside the contribution it makes to the British agricultural sector.

Nick Purnell, Head of Corporate Communications for Pilgrim’s UK, said: “Our business makes a significant contribution to the agricultural and food production sectors, from setting the highest standards in animal husbandry to providing diverse career opportunities for many thousands of people across the UK. With increased interest in domestic food production post-Brexit, we want to play a leading role in championing the importance of standards in the food supply chain, from farm to fork.”

Pilgrim’s UK is the latest grocery sector client to appoint us as its retained communications advisor. We also represent Aldi, Coca-Cola European Partners, Molson Coors Beverage Company, Tate & Lyle and The Midcounties Co-operative.
